The God Who Calls Things Not Being as Being, and Who Raises the Dead (1) – Rom. 4:18

The called race became the race of faith. Abraham was first a called person, then a person of faith. He forsook everything and could not move forward except by trusting in God. He trusted God because he did not know where to go. God only told him to leave his country, his kindred and his father’s house. He did not tell Abraham where to go, which forced him to trust in God. Abraham could say, “I only trust in God. Where He leads me, I will go.” If we study the history of Abraham, we will know that his life was a life of trust, a life of faith. God does not expect Abraham to do anything. God seemed to tell him: “Abraham, you have been called by Me; do not do anything. I will do everything for you, just be with Me. When I move, you move; where I go, you must go; do not do anything for yourself or by yourself.” This is the meaning of trusting in God.

To believe in the Lord means: we must terminate ourselves and acknowledge that we are nothing, have nothing, and can do nothing. Every step, every moment, we must trust in Him. I do not know how to act; I only know how to trust in my Lord. I have been called to leave everything that is not of God, and now I believe into everything that is of God. I believe in Him, and I also believe in everything He has accomplished for me. I believe in what He can do for me, and I believe in what He will do for me; I trust in Him completely. This is the testimony of the called and believing race. We are the descendants of Abraham, the father of faith, and we are the people of faith (Gal. 3:7-9).

God Is the God Who Calls Things Not Being as Being

What kind of God did Abraham believe in? Who is the God we believe in? The God whom Abraham believed in is the God who calls things not being as being (Rom. 4:17). That Abraham’s God calls things not being as being means He creates things out of nothing. God is the Creator. Abraham believed in such a God and applied this God to his situation. In one sense, Abraham could not produce an heir. However, God called Isaac into being. Although Isaac was not yet there, God called Isaac into being. When Isaac was not yet there, and it was impossible for him to be, God declared, “There shall be Isaac.” Isaac was born: God calls things not being as being. We must believe in the same God, for He is the almighty Creator who calls things not being as being.
