Entering into Full Fellowship — Hebron — Gen. 35:27
After Jacob passed through these deeper, more intimate dealings, he entered into full fellowship with the Lord at Hebron (Gen. 35:27). Fellowship at Hebron means intimacy, peace, satisfaction and joy. This is wonderful in the church life. However, when we first begin to experience the church life, we do not yet have full fellowship. This fellowship is found at Hebron. Today, many who are in the church life are not in a spiritual condition of intimacy, peace, satisfaction and joy. So although you are already in the church life, you still need to go on, passing through deeper, more intimate dealings, until you arrive at Hebron and enter into full fellowship with the Lord. In this fellowship, there will be complete joy, satisfaction, peace and intimacy between you and the Lord.
Genesis 35:27 says, “Jacob came to his father Isaac at Mamre of Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had sojourned.” Abraham came to Shechem (Gen. 12:6), passed through Bethel (Gen. 12:8), and dwelt in Hebron (Gen. 13:18; 18:1). Isaac spent almost his entire life at Hebron. Therefore, Jacob followed in Abraham’s footsteps, coming to Shechem (Gen. 33:18), passing through Bethel (Gen. 35:6), and dwelling in Hebron. We all need to come to Hebron. Although we are in the church life, we do not have rest, full peace, joy and intimacy until we go on in spirit to Hebron. Here at Hebron, we enjoy wonderful intimacy with the Lord. Hebron is also the place of our maturity in life. In 37:1, Jacob began to mature, because he was at Hebron.
Message Main Points: After passing through deeper, more intimate dealings, Jacob came to Hebron and entered into full fellowship with the Lord. Bethel is not the end; we still need to press on in life until there is a fellowship of intimacy, peace, satisfaction and joy between us and the Lord, and to gradually mature in such a fellowship.
Daily Prayer: Lord Jesus, make me not to be satisfied with the spiritual experience I already have, but lead me to press on. May I accept Your deeper dealing in my environment, that I may live more in intimate fellowship with You, enjoying Your peace, satisfaction and joy, and gradually mature in life. Amen.
