font-family: 'times new roman', times;\"><b>If Christ Were Not the Spirit, He Could Never Indwell Us<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 20px; font-family: 'times new roman', times;\">In Rom 8:9-10, we find three synonymous terms used interchangeably: \u201cthe Spirit of God,\u201d \u201cthe Spirit of Christ,\u201d and \u201cChrist.\u201d Furthermore, Rom 8:11 refers to the indwelling Spirit. These synonyms indicate and prove that Christ is the indwelling Spirit. Undoubtedly \u201cthe Spirit of God\u201d in verse 9 is \u201cthe Spirit of life\u201d in verse 2. After Paul mentions \u201cthe Spirit of God,\u201d he speaks about the \u201cSpirit of Christ\u201d and \u201cChrist\u201d Himself. Hence, Christ in us is the indwelling Spirit. He is \u201cthe Spirit of life,\u201d He is \u201cthe Spirit of God,\u201d and He is also \u201cthe Spirit of Christ\u201d indwelling us that He may impart Himself as life to us. Christ not only imparts life to our spirit, but also to our minds and to our mortal bodies\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 20px; font-family: 'times new roman', times;\">\u201cBut you are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you\u2026\u201d (Rom 8:9). Many verses in the epistles begin with the wonderful word \u201cbut.\u201d Hallelujah for \u201cbut\u201d! In our history we need many \u201cbuts\u201d such as this. We should be able to say, \u201cOh, I was down this morning, \u2018but.\u2019 I am so weak in myself, \u2018but.\u2019 I am absolutely hopeless, \u2018but.\u2019\u201d Paul says, \u201cBut you are not in the flesh&#8230;.\u201d Never say that you have a good flesh and that you are in your good flesh. We should not remain in our flesh, for our flesh has been condemned. If a house has been condemned by the government, it is illegal for you to stay there. Likewise, the flesh has been thoroughly condemned by God, and we should not remain there, arguing that our flesh has improved.
