建造城以过人为、无神的生活
用被错用了的泥土，凭劳力来建造，就是建立人为、无神的生活。在巴别所建造的城，不能长出甚么来。那里没有神，没有生命。请看人类的文化、社会、以及全世界现在的情形。人们在作甚么？他们在烧土作砖，为要建造一座没有神、没有生命的城。这就是今天的社会。每个社会都是一个巴别。今天的社会，乃是人将神创造的泥土，烧去其中生长生命的元素而成为砖头，所建造成的。今天社会上的每一组织，都在将泥土烧成砖，以建造一座无神又无生命的巴别城。
你见过有那个社会不是这样作的？你如果见过这样的社会，那必定是教会。教会不烧泥土，教会是耕土播种。教会不是在建造一座无生命又无神的城，教会是在建造一座有神、且满有生命的城。教会的建造是用宝石，不是用烧土而成的砖。不仅在世俗的社会里，甚至在所谓的基督教社会里，在基督教里，在某种程度上，人们也是在烧土作砖。他们将生长生命的元素烧死，为要建造一座无神又无生命的城。教会是惟一不烧泥土的。教会耕土、播种并浇灌，使生命的种子，就是基督，长大并产生材料，好建造神的圣城。这是教会在这里所作的。
然而，其他各种社会，包括许多所谓的基督教团体，乃是烧去生长生命的元素，为着建造无神又无生命的城。但在教会生活中我们不是烧土，我们是浇灌土。我们在作栽种并生长的工作：耕地、播种、浇灌并生长。我们不烧毁、不杀死。我们有一个建造，就是神的建造，但不是用人造的砖或靠人的劳力，乃是用神所创造并变化的石头，且靠着神的工作。

Building a City for a Man-made, Godless Life
To build with misused clay by human labor is to establish a man-made, godless life. The city built at Babel could not grow anything. There was no God and no life there. Look at human culture, society and the current situation of the whole world. What are people doing? They are burning soil to make bricks in order to build a city without God and without life. This is today’s society. Every society is a Babel. Today’s society is built by man taking the God-created clay and burning away the elements that grow life to make bricks. Every organization in society today is burning clay into bricks to build a godless and lifeless city of Babel.
Have you ever seen a society that does not do this? If you have seen such a society, that must be the church. The church does not burn the clay; the church plows the soil and sows the seed. The church is not building a lifeless and godless city; the church is building a city that has God and is full of life. The building of the church is with precious stones, not with bricks made by burning soil. Not only in secular society, but even in so-called Christian society, in Christendom, to a certain extent, people are also burning soil to make bricks. They burn to death the elements that grow life in order to build a godless and lifeless city. The church is the only one that does not burn the clay. The church plows, sows and waters so that the seed of life, which is Christ, may grow and produce material to build God’s holy city. This is what the church is doing here.
However, all other societies, including many so-called Christian groups, are burning away the elements that grow life to build a godless and lifeless city. But in the church life, we do not burn the soil; we water the soil. We are doing the work of planting and growing: plowing, sowing, watering and growing. We do not burn; we do not kill. We have a building, which is God’s building, but it is not with man-made bricks or by man’s labor; it is with stones created and transformed by God, and by trusting in God’s work.
