Preparation for Spreading the Gospel (3) — Rom 12:1

1. Being a Consecrated Person and Honoring Jesus as Lord

The first step in preparing to share the gospel is to be a consecrated person and filled with Christ. How can we be filled with Christ? Let’s start by asking yourself: You have received Him as your Savior, but is He truly Lord in your life? How much room does He have within you? If you cannot declare that Jesus is Lord of the universe and Lord in your life, it’s likely that the gospel will lack power in your life. The gospel is not spread through zeal or excitement, yet it overflows from a life filled with Christ. Receiving Jesus as Savior is just the beginning; you must also let Him be your Lord. You need to surrender every part of your life to Him, allowing Him to have full authority and position in your life. Living a overcome and consecrated life means living under the lordship of Jesus, where He has full control over every matter in your life. Though He is a gentle Lord, He must be Lord of everything in you and over you. When this happens, Christ will fill you completely, and you will naturally proclaim Him as Lord to others. The extent to which you yield to Him determines how much He fills and occupies you. This is the essence of our gospel and the source of its power. Therefore, to spread the gospel effectively, we must first be consecrated persons, fully surrendered to the Lord, allowing Him to have complete authority in our life.

2. Offering Good Prayers

Second, we must offer good prayers before the Lord. It’s not enough to pray more; we must learn to pray well. Good prayers are those that touch God and allow God to touch us. You cannot simply utter a brief prayer and expect the Lord to act. Such prayers cannot truly reach God or His throne. Good prayers are those that deeply connect with God. To pray this way, you must first allow God to touch you. You need to be a consecrated person, to be touched by the Lord, allowing Him to take full control. When you pray, seek to touch God, and He will first touch you – your feelings, your unyielded areas and your unresolved struggles. He will touch the parts of you that haven’t yet surrendered or been given to Him. If God touches you but you resist His overcoming in your life, then all your prayers will amount to nothing. But if you allow God to touch you and respond by saying, “Lord, I surrender. I yield everything to You without reservation”, you will be able to extend the hand of faith in prayer to touch God Himself and His throne. At this point, your prayers become good prayers. You allow the Lord to touch every part of you, and there is no more contention between you and Him. Whatever He points out, you surrender; whatever He asks, you yield. Without holding anything back, you can use your prayers to truly touch God. When praying for the gospel, your focus will no longer just be on asking the Lord to save souls but on commanding Him to pour out the Holy Spirit from His throne upon countless poor, pitiful sinners, leading them to repentance.
