Going Out to Visit People:The Most Effective Way toSpread the Gospel (1) – Matt. 3:2
Going out to visit people is the most effective way to spread the gospel for God’s kingdom. In fact, door-knocking to visit people is not a new way but an ancient one. This way began in the garden of Genesis 3. Every Christian should knock on doors to share the gospel with others. Knocking on doors means visiting people. This practice is actually a God-ordained way for Christians to spread the gospel. Unfortunately, it has been adopted by groups like the Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses to propagate their heresies, while the true Christians have almost abandoned this God-ordained way to spread the gospel. This is a great pity, but now the Lord is leading us back to this way.
We must learn and train ourselves to practice this way of going out to visit people. The biggest hindrance to our receiving training and going out to visit others is our own concepts. We may cling to the ways we used in the past to preach the gospel. While those methods may have been good, they cannot be as effective as the way of going out to visit people. To be trained in this new way, the first requirement is to lay aside our old concepts. We have to let go of our preconceived ideas and receive the instructions in training. If we stubbornly hold on to our old ways, we cannot be trained by the Lord. But if we are willing to forget the old ways and practice the Lord’s new way, we will see positive results.
In Lord’s new way, we have to have trust, confidence, boldness and be proactive. We are sent by the ascended Christ to visit people, and when we speak to others, we are joined to Christ. We have the position and authority of the ascended Christ to lead people to believe and be baptized. Since the authority of the ascended Christ has been entrusted to us to preach the gospel, we should not ask people questions like, “Are you willing to believe?” Instead, we should lead them to believe. Nor should we ask them if they want to be baptized; we should lead them to baptism. We must be like John the Baptist, who said to people, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near” (Matt 3:2). John the Baptist preached the gospel with a commanding tone, not by asking questions.
