Living in a Resurrection Life(2) – Gen. 8:20-21
A Spiritual man, Signified by the Dove, Remains in the Church and Attends to the Spiritual Life
After releasing the raven, Noah released a dove. The dove found no resting place because the earth was still covered with the waters of death; therefore, it returned to the ark (Gen. 8:9). Seven days later Noah released the dove again, and this time it returned with a freshly plucked olive leaf (Gen. 8:11). In typology, the olive signifies the Holy Spirit, and a fresh olive leaf signifies new life in the Spirit. The dove saw the fresh olive leaf and plucked it; this represents life. For the church to have a new development, there must be fresh olive leaves. When establishing the church in a city, we must first send a few “doves” to see whether there is fresh olive-leaf life.
The Offering of Christ to God Is Signified by Sacrifice, Through the Cross Is Signified by the Altar
After the resurrected ones came out of the ark and began their new life, the first thing they did was to build an altar and offer sacrifices to God (Gen. 8:20–22). The first matter in the church life is not work; it must be offering Christ to God through the cross. Noah built an altar and offered sacrifices. The altar typifies the cross of Christ, and the offerings typify Christ in His many aspects. We must offer Christ to God in all His aspects; we must bring to God the Christ we have experienced. When we experience Christ as the burnt offering, we have to bring such a Christ to God. God desires that we bring Christ to Him. When we experience Christ and bring our experience of Him to God, this is pleasing to God.
We must learn to experience Christ, bring Him to God, and enjoy Him with God — this is what God receives. We offer Christ to God through the cross. Do not rush to work — draw near to the cross. Do not think about doing something — come to the cross. What does the cross do? It does one thing: it removes you. Before doing anything for the Lord, you must come to the cross and let it remove you. Eventually, no natural work, service or action remains; after you pass through the cross, only Christ is left. This Christ becomes the sweet fragrance offered to God.
