Noah’s Household Was Saved Through Water — Col. 1:13

When Noah had finished building the ark, God said to him, “You and all your household shall enter the ark, for I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this time.” God also instructed Noah to bring into the ark seven pairs of every clean animal, a male and its mate; and of every unclean animal, one pair; and of the birds of the air, seven pairs, to keep their offspring alive on the face of all the earth. Noah did according to all that God commanded him. He entered the ark with his wife, his sons, and his sons’ wives, along with every kind of animal and bird. When Noah’s household of eight and all the living creatures had entered the ark, God shut the door behind them. After seven days, the flood came upon the earth. On that day, all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. Rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights. The waters prevailed on the earth for forty days, lifting the ark and causing it to float above the ground. The waters increased greatly, covering even the highest mountains under heaven. Every living creatures on the earth that had flesh and breath died. Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark were left alive. The floodwaters covered the earth for one hundred and fifty days (Gen. 7:1–24).

Noah lived in a crooked and perverse generation, a generation condemned by God and under the dark and evil power on earth. God intervened, bringing judgment to end that generation. On one hand, God used the flood to judge the wicked world; on the other hand, the same flood separated Noah from that generation. Thus, Noah was not only delivered from God’s condemnation through the pitch on the ark (a type of Christ’s redeeming blood), but he was also saved through the waters of judgment, separated from the evil age.

Today, we live in a similar generation. The world situation is undoubtedly under God’s judgment and the corrupting influence of evil powers. Without God’s salvation, no one could escape the pull and defilement of this evil and perverted age. But thank the Lord — Noah and his household entered the ark, typifying us, the saved ones, who have entered into Christ through baptism. Through baptism, God’s full salvation not only rescues us from His judgment, but also delivers us from the dark power and corrupt influence of this evil world. Today, we are those who have been saved through water.
