洗净——神的话也洗净我们。神的话生机的、新陈代谢的洗净我们的全人。当神的话生机的进到我们的全人里面，就新陈代谢的洗净我们。
建造——神的话也把我们建造起来。我们既是教会─身体─的肢体，就必须建造起来。我们都有怪僻，所以人就很难对付我们，更不用说把我们建造起来。然而，神的话能在里面摸着我们，使我们能在教会中建造起来。
使人完备并完全——神的话也使人完备并完全。婴孩在器官上是完备的，但在功用上还不完备。小孩子身体上的器官要合式的尽功用，就需要长大。小孩子越长大，他的功用就越完备、越完全。在属灵的经历上也是这样。我们既是基督身体上的肢体，就都该尽功用。但如果我们要尽功用，就必须先藉着神的话得以完全。因为神的话滋养我们，我们就长大。然后藉着长大，就产生功用。
造就——我们在本篇信息所要看神话语的最后一项功用，乃是造就我们。被建造与得造就不同。被建造与团体的教会有关，得造就主要是个人在美德的事上得着建立。我们都需要在个人方面得造就、被建立，因为我们都缺少一些美德。譬如，我们也许缺少忍耐、智慧、谦卑、恩慈等美德。神的话的确在美德的事上造就我们。我们越有神的话，就越有美德。我们的恩慈、忍耐、智慧、谦卑，都要因着神的话而加增。
神的话光照、滋养、解渴、加强、洗净、建造、使人完全、并造就人。我们何等需要神的话！

The Function of God’s Word (2) – Col. 3:16
Cleansing — God’s word also cleanses us. It metabolically and organically washes our whole being. When God’s word enters into our entire being in a living way, it brings about a metabolic cleansing within us.
Building — God’s word also builds us up. Since we are members of the church, the Body, we must be built up together. Each of us has peculiarities, which makes it hard for men to deal with us, let alone to build us together. However, God’s word can touch us inwardly, enabling us to be built up in the church.
Fully Equipping and Completing — God’s word also fully equips and completes us. A baby is complete in organs, but not yet in function. For the organs of a child’s body to properly carry out their functions, growth is necessary. The more the child grows, the more complete and perfect his functions become. It is the same in our spiritual experience. Since we are members of the Body of Christ, we all ought to function. But in order to function, we must first be perfected through God’s word. As God’s word nourishes us, we grow. Then through growth, we develop function.
Perfecting — The last function of God’s word we will see in this message is that it perfects us. Being built up and being perfected are not the same. Building up is related to the corporate church, whereas perfection mainly refers to being established individually in virtues. We all need to be perfected and established personally because we are short of many virtues. For example, we may lack patience, wisdom, humility, kindness and so on. God’s word truly perfects us in the matter of virtues. The more we have God’s word, the more virtues we will have. Our kindness, patience, wisdom and humility will all increase because of God’s word.
God’s word enlightens, nourishes, quenches, strengthens, cleanses, builds, equips and perfects. How much we need God’s word!
