耶和华看中了亚伯和他的供物，只是看不中该隐和他的供物。该隐却因此发怒，变了脸色。耶和华对该隐说，“你为什么发怒呢？你为什么变了脸色呢？你若行得好，岂不蒙悦纳，你若行得不好，罪就伏在门前…。”神要该隐快快悔改，好制伏罪，不要让罪胜过他。然而该隐并没有听进神的话，将他的心转向神并且悔改；反而心更刚硬。他对亚伯从嫉妒转成仇恨，他开始恨他的弟弟亚伯。
有一天，当兄弟二人在田间说话时，该隐便起来打了他的弟弟亚伯，又把他杀了。神知道该隐杀了弟弟亚伯，仍然满带恩慈怜悯的临到他，要给他一个机会认罪。神向该隐询问，他的兄弟在那里。但是该隐不仅没有悔改，还欺骗神说，“我不知道，我岂是看守我兄弟的吗？”这话表示他的傲慢。该隐没有听从父母的话，却走了撒但的路。魔鬼撒但是说谎者，该隐与他合作说了个大谎言，并且向神如此傲慢。这就是人第二次的堕落。
创世记四章给我们看见，那在创世记三章注入到人里面的邪恶种子，首先显在一件看来很好的事上，就是敬拜神的事上。这邪恶的种子在该隐里面，叫他敬拜神，却不是照着神的路，或照着神的启示，乃是照着他的观念。接着，这种子在他里面发展为嫉妒，然后发展为愤怒、仇恨、凶杀和谎言。因为该隐拒绝了神的路和神的警告，他就被撒但那杀人者捉住，与撒但一同成了杀人的。该隐轻视他父母所传的福音，又摒弃了神的警告，因此他被撒但推动，照着自己的发明事奉神。至终他完全被撒但占有，成了杀人犯。这是人第二次的堕落。

Man’s Second Fall – Gen. 4:8-9
Jehovah regarded Abel and his offering, but He did not regard Cain and his offering. Because of this, Cain became very angry, and his countenance fell. Jehovah said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door…” God desired that Cain repent quickly, subdue sin, and not let sin overpower him. However, Cain did not listen to God’s word, turn his heart to Him and repent. Instead, his heart became harder. His jealousy toward Abel turned into hatred; he began to hate his brother Abel.
One day, while the two brothers were talking in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him. God knew Cain had killed his brother, yet He still came to Cain full of mercy and kindness, giving him an opportunity to confess. God asked Cain where his brother was. But instead of repenting, Cain deceived God, saying, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” These words revealed his arrogance. Cain had not listened to his parents but had walked in the way of Satan. The devil, Satan, is the father of lies; Cain cooperated with him by telling a great lie and showing arrogance toward God. This was man’s second fall.
Genesis chapter 4 shows us that the evil seed injected into man in Genesis chapter 3 first manifested itself in something that appeared to be very good — worshiping God. This evil seed in Cain caused him to worship God, but not according to God’s way or God’s revelation; instead, it was according to his own concept. Then this seed developed within him into jealousy, then into anger, hatred, murder and lying. Because Cain rejected God’s way and ignored God’s warning, he was seized by Satan, the murderer, and became a murderer together with him. Cain despised the gospel his parents had passed on and cast aside God’s warning. Thus, he was driven by Satan, serving God according to his own invention. In the end, he was fully possessed by Satan and became a murderer. This was man’s second fall.
