The Meaning of Human Life – John 4:24

A light bulb that is not connected to electricity loses both its intended function and the meaning of its existence. Similarly, if you feel that your life lacks meaning, it is because, deep in your heart, God is not present. In the depths of your being, you lack Lord. As a result, your life has no center, and you have not achieved its highest purpose. You are like a ship adrift on the vast sea of life. A suggestion from the east sends you eastward; a theory from the west leads you westward. The absence of a center in your heart stems from the lack of Lord, a God, within you. When trials come, you are unable to cope; when temptations arise, you cannot overcome them. In moments of darkness, you lack the strength to stand firm; when faced with corruption, you are powerless to avoid being tainted. All of this happens because you lack a central anchor in your life. This center is God Himself.

Furthermore, because this center is missing, your life not only lacks meaning but is also aimless and adrift. Your life has no clear goal or direction. As a result, you find no satisfaction within and no purpose externally. If you take some quiet time, especially in the stillness of the night, to reflect deeply on your life and carefully consider your future, you will feel the utter meaninglessness of everything due to the absence of God. At that point, you will naturally begin to ask yourself, “What is the purpose of my existence in this universe? What am I doing here today? Where am I heading in the future? What will be my ultimate end?” Likely, no one can provide an answer to these questions. And the reason you cannot answer them yourself is that you lack this central Lord within you – you lack God.

God as the Center of Man, the Driving Force of the Gospel

As Christians, we possess a zeal and a driving force to share the Lord Jesus with others because He is our center. He fills the void within us and meets our innermost needs. Inside every Christian, there is a driving force. This force does not originate from ourselves but from God dwelling within us as this driving power. This is why we Christians are passionate and motivated to share the gospel, to bear witness to friends and family, to proclaim the Lord Jesus, and to bring Him to you. It is not due to ourselves or anything inherent in us. The driving force within us comes from the Lord Jesus within us, turning into our motivation. The power of the gospel does not arise from us nor rest in us; it is Christ within us who compels and moves us. Because of this, we often feel a “burning” within – a fire so intense that it seems unbearable not to speak of the Lord Jesus to others. It is as if a flame burns within us, compelling us to ignite the burden of sharing the gospel. In truth, it is not our passion but the Lord who moves us, who drives us. He urges us to share the gospel with every friend and family member, telling them: “Your life, like every person’s life, needs this Lord of the universe. Without the Lord, your life has no meaning and no purpose. But with the Lord, you will find joy and fulfillment”.
