The Lord’s Sending Out Disciples (1) – Mark 16:15
In the four Gospel books, we see examples of the Lord sending out His disciples to visit the lost sheep of the house of Israel, going through cities and villages to bring peace to them (Mark 10:5-8, 11-13). When the Lord Jesus was on earth, He did not primarily gather people for meetings but continually went out to visit others. He visited Galilee, Judea and Jerusalem. He went to the house of Martha and Mary (Luke 10:38-39) and to the house of Simon the leper (Mark 26:6). The Lord carried out His ministry through these visits, bringing salvation and the riches of the Triune God to people. This practice of visiting is entirely different from the deformed and fallen practices of today’s Christianity. We have to be delivered from such a fallen state and return to the Lord’s way.
When the Lord sent out the twelve disciples and commanded them to go through cities and villages to visit the lost sheep. We should follow the Lord’s example, going to new cities and small towns to do the same. The number twelve in the Bible has a special significance. It is the product of four times three: the Triune God (three) multiplied by man (four). Twelve signifies the mingling of the Triune God with tripartite man. If a gospel group of twelve saints is formed, it can be divided into four teams, each with three saints. We are people mingled with the Triune God, going out to knock on doors.
