我们需要知道新耶路撒冷是甚么。新耶路撒冷是神历代建造工作的终极完成。从亚当开始，持续了大约六十个世纪，神作了许多建造的工作，这工作的结果就是新耶路撒冷，神永远的居所。
从亚当到千年国的末了分为四个时代；法前时代，从亚当到摩西；律法时代，从摩西到基督；恩典时代，从基督第一次来临直到基督第二次来临万物复兴的时候；以及国度时代，从基督第二次来临到千年国的末了。神在这四个时代里已作了祂建造的工，并且要继续作。然而，大多数基督徒并不关心神的建造，只关心人的宗教。赞美主，我们已蒙了拯救，脱离那可怜的光景！现在我们不在人的宗教里，乃在神的建造里。这建造今日是教会，最终是新耶路撒冷。我们在教会中，也在往新耶路撒冷去的路上。

God’s Temple and Household in the New Testament Is the Church – Acts 7:46-49, 1 Cor. 3:16
In the New Testament, this dwelling place and this temple (household) is the church, which is God’s dwelling place in the believer’s spirit (Eph. 2:22; 1 Tim. 3:15). The Lord cares for those who are poor and contrite in spirit, and dwells with those who are contrite and lowly in spirit. He will revive the spirit of the lowly and the heart of the contrite (Isa. 66:1-2; 57:15). For the building of God’s dwelling place, the Lord and our spirit are one, and our spirit and the Lord are also one; our spirit is the church, God’s dwelling place, the place of the building (1 Cor. 6:17, Eph. 2:22).
The ultimate consummation of this universal building, the universal temple, is the New Jerusalem; in this city, God is in man to be man’s dwelling place; and man is in God to be God’s dwelling place (Rev. 21:3, 22, Gen. 28:12, 17, 2 Sam. 7:12-14).
We need to know what the New Jerusalem is. The New Jerusalem is the ultimate consummation of God’s building work throughout the ages. Beginning with Adam and continuing for about sixty centuries, God did much building work. The result of this work is the New Jerusalem, God’s eternal dwelling place.
The ages from Adam to the end of the Millennium Kingdom is divided into four dispensation: the the dispensation before the law, from Adam to Moses; the dispensation of the law, from Moses to Christ; and the dispensation of grace, from the first coming of Christ to the second coming of Christ when all things are restored; and the dispensation of the kingdom, from the second coming of Christ to the end of the Millennium Kingdom. God has done His work of building work in these four dispensations and will continue doing it. However, most Christians do not care about God’s building but only about man’s religion. Praise the Lord, we have been saved from that pitiful situation! Now we are not in man’s religion but in God’s building-up. This building-up is the church today and ultimately the New Jerusalem. We are in the church and also on the way to the New Jerusalem.
