The Gospel of the New Testament Is Concerning the Kingdom of God – Matt. 24:14
In the New Testament era, which is also the gospel era, the first words God said to men were: “Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens has come near” (Matt. 3:2). This was spoken through John the Baptist. When the Lord Jesus came out to preach, the first words he spoke were still: “Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens has come near” (Matt. 4:17). Why do we need to repent? Because the kingdom of the heavens is coming; repentance enables men to enter into the kingdom of the heavens. Repentance not only allows men to have their sins forgiven, receive life, be reborn and saved; repentance also brings men into a kingdom. Later we saw that the Lord Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, he preached not only the gospel of forgiveness of sins and the gospel of life, but also the gospel of the kingdom (Matt. 9:35).
We see in the Acts of the Apostles that after his resurrection, the Lord Jesus spent forty days speaking exclusively concerning the kingdom of God to his disciples (Acts 1:3). On the day of Pentecost, the disciples were in Jerusalem and traveling to various places to preach the gospel (Acts 2:1-41; 8:1-4). The Book of Acts tells us that the gospel they preached was related to the kingdom of God (Acts 8:12, 14:22). Even Paul himself said that the gospel of the grace of God that he preached was the kingdom of God; the kingdom of God is the content of the gospel of God (Acts 20:24-25).
When we come to the epistles, the book of Romans, the apostle Paul said, “For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Rom. 14:17). Colossians 1:13 tells us that God’s salvation delivers us out of the authority of darkness and transfers us into the kingdom of the Son of his love. From God’s perspective, we were originally in the kingdom of Satan, which was the power of darkness; now God has rescued us out of the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son.
